All aboard for SKULL ISLAND, Six Flags Over Georgia’s newest attraction, featuring water slides and hundreds of interactive water elements within one giant water play structure. Complete with a Caribbean pirate theme, Skull Island promises a splashing good time for crews of all ages. Guests will need to pack their beach gear, because Skull Island is BIG. Skull Island is WET. And most importantly, Skull Island is ONLY at Six Flags Over Georgia!
Once complete, Skull Island will span over one acre, occupying a space between the Great American Scream Machine and the Southern Star Amphitheater. The most distinguishing characteristic is a 66-foot high bucket designed to look like a pirate skull that towers over the entire play structure. The skull tips every few minutes, drenching guests below with over one thousand gallons of water.
To ensure guests receive a good soaking, two additional towers provide many more gallons of fun. The shipwrecked Blue Galleon periodically spills 750 gallons of water from an enormous 6-foot bucket. A 50-foot high volcano also erupts with a geyser of water at random intervals. Finally, hundreds of fountains, sprayers, water wheels and other interactive water elements are scattered throughout the enormous water play area for guests of all ages to experience.
"For over four generations Six Flags Over Georgia has been known for its thrill rides, shows, family attractions, and special events," said Melinda Ashcraft, vice president and general manager of Six Flags Over Georgia. "With the introduction of this giant new area and its splashy wet attractions, the park will offer everything a fun-seeking family could want in a summer vacation."
Skull Island will include six water slides, ranging from 6 feet to 42 feet in height. A series of transfer bridges, cargo net climbs, and swinging bridges will link 15 distinctive elevated platforms. Thatch-roofed canopies, treasure chests, water cannons and palm trees will complete the animated island, offering a Caribbean pirate-themed environment in which families can relax and chill during hot Georgia summers.
Scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend 2005, Skull Island will serve as part of Six Flags Over Georgia’s complete summer destination package. The attraction is included with the price of any regular admission ticket. Skull Island will be located between the Cotton States Exposition area and Southern Star Amphitheater. On-site changing facilities will be available, so guests are encouraged to bring a bathing suit and a towel.
This family attraction is being designed and manufactured by Koala Play Group, a Colorado company that specializes in play structures. The company collaborated with Proslide Inc. of Ottowa, Ontario, to integrate water slides into the enormous play structure.
